Love Lou Lou - Why A Podcast?
The most powerful thing we can do when someone we love passes away is to carry on their teachings and their legacy. My beautiful sister passed away in 2016. Her mail was forwarded to our home. It didn't take but a minute to realize how philanthropic she was. She gave to many organizations... generously.
Louise was also an incredible artist. She was eleven years older than me and someone I always looked up to. I wanted to be just like her. She would say she was going to be a commercial artist. I would think to myself, "That sounds like the greatest thing ever! I want to do that too!" Unfortunately she didn't pursue art but she was incredibly successful in business. Obviously I did pursue an art career, and she was one of my biggest supporters. When I was 21 she arranged for me to have my first One Woman Art Exhibit in San Francisco where she lived. She set up the venue and invited all her friends. They came and they purchased, all because of her. After that, there was no turning back. My life's work would be in the arts; painting, illustration, product design and interior design.
She was there for every event, book and product launch. She is the reason I was introduced to the VP of Product Development at Pottery Barn. She was authentic, kind and enthusiastic about it all. We both saw the Beauty in the little things.
I wanted to create something that I could support other artists and creative entrepreneurs in the way she had supported me. I wanted to also find a way that I could Pay It Forward for the next generation of artists. Both Louise and I saw the value and beauty in all the arts, so I thought what better way but to shine a light on new and up and coming artists by interviewing them on a podcast as well as featuring them here on my blog. I've asked the artists if I can reproduce a few of their pieces of art and have them for sale in my online shop under the Give Back category for the month they are feautured. The artist will receive a 20% commission of the sale and 100% of the remaining proceeds with go to the Louise Monforte Memorial Art Scholarship. This is an art scholarship for students here on the Central Coast (I'd love to grow it Nationwide!) who want to pursue a college education in the Arts. Scholarship details will be posted at the launch of the podcast in September 2018. I am so excited to share with you all these amazingly talented people as well as share my years of experience as a working creative! Stay tuned!!! Even better, sign up for my newsletter so you don't miss one exciting bit of it!! xoxo Love Me & Lou Lou
